What’s Happening Nov 27, 2024

Starting this Sunday, December 2nd we, in the Christian world, begin the season of Advent. I know that Black Friday started a week or so ago in most of the stores. As well as the Christmas decorations have been for sale for a few weeks now. I know that people started putting up Christmas decorations at least a week or so ago. But Advent officially starts the first Sunday in December.

It is a busy time of year for both Christians and non-practicing Christians alike. What we often find is that all the other stuff that goes along with Christmas can easily overtake our preparation season of Advent. And while I love a good Black Friday sale, and certainly enjoy the shopping and the parties that accompany celebration Christmas, Ialso remember how important it is to be in a season of preparation of Advent.

Which tends to include more quiet activities like reading an Advent devotion, or attending a Wednesday Holden Evening Prayer service, or taking a few minutes for quiet meditation to slow down your mind and focus on the important priorities. Our devotional themes for Wednesday evening will talk about ways we can include more spiritual practices into our already, busy, everyday lives.

But I want to encourage you now to start thinking about how you can set aside a few minutes to connect with God, and lift up what is truly important in your life, like your family, your friends, those who you know who are hurting, our planet, whatever it is that you find valuable.

We will have a daily Advent devotional and a weekly Advent devotional sitting out in the narthex if you would like to pick one up.
