Hopefully, you haven’t missed the announcements about our upcoming Leadership Training Event:

“Best Practices for Working with Volunteers”

Sunday, July 20 and 27, from 1:00–3:00 PM

I know how valuable your time is—especially on a Sunday afternoon. There are so many other things you could be doing: having lunch with family, catching up on errands, reading, napping, or even just tackling the laundry. Personally, I often spend my Sunday afternoons in the garden. Lately, I’ve been pulling weeds and trying to refresh some old beds with new perennials—flowers and grasses that have been sitting in my driveway for a week! I’ve been watering them daily, hoping they survive until I find the time to plant them.

But this year, I’m choosing to give up two of those precious Sunday afternoons to share something I believe is truly important: what I’ve learned over the years about working well with volunteers. Why? Because volunteers are the church. While staff play an important role, most congregations—including ours—simply couldn’t function without the dedication of volunteers. And if we want to keep our volunteers engaged, fulfilled, and energized, we need to be intentional about how we support and care for them.

This training will offer practical insights to help you, as a volunteer and someone who likely works alongside other volunteers, create healthy and meaningful ministry experiences. We’ll talk about how to prevent burnout, recognize frustration, and

cultivate a strong sense of purpose in our shared work. I warmly encourage you to join us for this conversation. Just a couple of hours—likely even less—could make a lasting impact on how we serve together and support one another in ministry.

See you there!
